Elections in the Philippines

So voting in the Philippines is done in elementary school classrooms. it’s just fascinating. People go there to vote for the future of the kids who use that place to learn.

I hope people realize that their vote may change the future of the kid sitting in the same chair they are sitting on.

Voting is a nice thing. It’s nice to be a part of the next six years of your country, for better or for worse.

To the Philippines, I wish y’all well.

Why Is Depression So Attractive?

There are some people who are just drawn into depression, sadness, and misery. I am not sure if their “load” is any heavier than others but they sure make it appear like so. There are some who are more open about and some who play it mysterious.

Is it their way of attracting attention to themselves? Like their vulnerability will win them some sympathy and get some people to look after them. Are they simply emotionally weak? Others suffer worse things but theirs are always more fatal. Do they really deserve to be sad? Their misery, objectively, is worse than everyone else is.

The Classic Damsel in Distress Drama

The Classic Damsel in Distress Drama

I want to love them and be their friend but being around them just brings me down. I don’t need that kind of downer in my life.

I can never let anyone in my world but I am not a miserable person. Why shouldn’t I be? I will have to carry the load of misery and not someone else and I don’t particularly like that kind of a sweat. If someone else can be miserable for me, I’ll consider.

I am always fascinated with life. I don’t wake up in the morning not wanting to get through the whole day. I always look forward to that what is to come, whatever that is. Sure, some days are better than the others but hey, I get what everyone else gets, I get a lifetime. I don’t think someone is special enough two get two of that.

Overrated: U2, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey…

U2, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, and perhaps 99% of bankable artists are overrated. I guess Noel Gallagher puts it best, “You don’t have to be great to be successful.”

There is no arguing to the fact that most of these artists are alright but to be called great entails not only the ability to write songs, perform on stage and market themselves. Greatness involves breaking boundaries that blocks the progress of the art they are involved in.

Before Elvis and The Beatles, there were only the manufactured sound created by record labels performed by singers that were auditioned based on their looks. Music was like a product that is created in a plant and is fed to the consumers. Then Elvis and The Beatles came with lyrics and sound so unimaginable they were accused of being sons of satan. That is a story told and retold by better equipped and writers more talented than I am. There is no need for me to expound on it.

These are artists that are great to their core. Even if you take out Elvis costumes and The Beatles stunts, what will remain is their music that requires no complicated guitar rifts or supersonic sounding audio. Music that speaks of sentiments that were before hidden, silent and timeless. Music that, for once, is of the artists’ and not some institution motivated by money.

Everyone else that followed like U2, Madonna, Lady Gaga owe it to the others that truly broke the boundaries. The music they are making now is possible because of these greats. They are good, they are alright but greatness is more than that.
